Since 2000, perhaps along with the expansion of the internet, there’s been an increase in the amount of products available sold as tattoo removal creams. Somewhere between half a dozen and a dozen products are available, although some companies seem very small and nearly out of business already when you look at their half-way functioning websites!

That being said, there are 3 that stand out above the rest, and you’ve surely heard of the first one if you’ve researched the topic at all. These are Wrecking Balm (not Wrecking Ball!) , Tattoo Off and Tat B Gone.

Are these creams going to damage my skin?

It’s unlikely that any tattoo removal lotion is going to harm your skin. At worst case, they would just fail to remove the tattoo. The ingredients in tattoo removal creams are what’s known as “generally recognized as safe”. This means it’s just as risky using a removal cream as any other beauty product that uses ingredients the FDA considers already tested and safe for public use.

What about getting a cover up instead?

Have you thought about getting your tattoo covered up as opposed to simply removing it? Consider that it will take many applications of a tattoo removal cream to rid yourself entirely of the tattoo. Each of those applications costs money! With that in mind, maybe you’d rather spend that money on an awesome NEW tattoo that can mask the old tattoo?

Something to think about! Because you’re going to spend the money either way. Hmmm….

There are definitely more options that just these over the counter creams and lotions. In fact, the other methods have been around much longer and are considered highly superior by people who perform them over using any OTC method.

The two most popular removal methods are probably, first, laser removal, and second, rejuvi removal. Laser treatments have been used for decades to remove tattoos and rejuvi has come about in the last 10-15 years or so as a good removal method as well.

Those seeking a free tattoo removal method can always get out the cheese grater and start scraping away. Just keep the bandages handy.

They are an over the counter product you can buy without ever seeing a doctor, without needing a prescription, in order to get rid of a tattoo you just do not want any longer. This do it yourself remedy is applied topically the skin – after X amount of treatments (depending on your tattoo), it will fade the ink until it’s gone. Note that this tends to work best on older, cheaper tattoos versus new, nicer tattoos with good inks.
